Blended Heritage
I first saw my husband when I was running and he was riding a motorcycle. The noise caught my attention so I looked up and we exchanged smiles. Later that same day we were randomly at the same restaurant with mutual friends. I said, “Were you the guy on the motorcycle?” He said, “Were you the girl running on the bridge?” and the rest is history. We spent a lot of time on the motorcycle early on in our relationship. One summer day we rode for hours and I was inspired by everything we passed. I thought a lot about creating artwork inspired by native plants. This one motorcycle ride has transformed my work. While I was pregnant I had this idea to translate my DNA and my husband’s DNA into botanical patterns. Basically, each component of our DNA was converted to a native plant from the origin of our genetic makeup. This collection is the result of those drawings.
